A supportive virtual community for writers to connect, learn, and be their true, book-loving selves.
We've seen so many writers struggling alone as they work towards their dreams.
Our goal is simple: we are here to help you hone your craft, get inspired about your story, and set you up for long-term success in your writing.
“Thus far, this has been the healthiest most responsive community of writers I've found. I've discovered that being a part of a community and having people you trust walking alongside you is of the utmost importance in writing, just as it is in life. I'm truly grateful to be a part of the Sodality!”
— Ryder Hamilton, Fantasy and Paranormal Mystery/Thriller Writer —

If a group of crows is called a "murder" and a group of penguins is called a "waddle," we believe that the group of storytellers in our community should be called a "sodality."
Why? Generally speaking, a sodality is a group of people working together towards a common goal. This community is an amazing group of writers all striving towards the common goals of:
honing their craft,
encouraging each other in their writing journeys, and
making solid progress toward their writing and publishing goals!

A coterie is a small group of people with shared interests or tastes. Coterie Members are the "inner circle" of the Sodality of Storytellers.
"I know I’m supposed to be here in this group with these awesome writers and book coaches. We are all in this together being supportive and encouraging while cheering each other on and making writing less of a solitary experience. This group is helping me continue to learn a ton and make a lot more progress with my writing."
''It was terrifying to share [my writing] at first, but everyone is really supportive so now I can’t wait to share. I also love the group coaching calls. It’s great to hear what others are struggling with and feel that sense of relief because you feel the same way. I feel like I’m doing it for me but also for others."
"I've enjoyed the community of the Sodality, and getting some built-in readers for pieces of my work along the way. This community has helped me better learn how to organize and structure my novels, up-leveled my craft game, and given me consistent bits of feedback along the way that help me tighten my stories and learn from my mistakes in real time to improve for the next time!"

If you are viewing this page, chances are you received an invitation via email with a link to it! In case it wasn't clear in the email, you have been invited to join The Sodality of Storytellers because you are working with Katie and/or Andrew in some sort of coaching capacity.
We use Discord as our platform of choice for the community. The Discord community can be accessed through a desktop app and a mobile app.
"I do like that the community is on Discord. It is easy to navigate and it makes communicating with everyone easy as well."
—A. L. Road, Fantasy Writer
For our video calls we use Zoho Meetings. Those meetings can be access through a web browser or a mobile app. You will not need to create a Zoho account to access the meetings.
We used to have a "public-facing" community called The Alcove that anyone was welcome to join. However, with the launch of the Sodality of Storytellers, we have shifted our focus from trying to reach new people to fostering community and relationships with the people that we already know. In other words, the Sodality of Storytellers is a writing community that is exclusive to the clients of Craft Better Books.
If you would like to invite a friend to join, steer them towards working with either Katie or Andrew and they will receive an invitation just like you did!
From historical romance to myth retellings to epic fantasy to contemporary fiction, we support writers of all genres and welcome you and your writing projects.
Put another way, every genre Katie and Andrew work with as book coaches can be represented here in The Sodality.
Yes! Once you are signed up, just download the free Discord app from your app store.

Katie is a writer, book coach, and lover of stories, words, and grammar (yes, really!). She has over a decade of experience working with writers and is certified through the Author Accelerator Book Coaching Program. She is known for her meticulous eye for revision and undying enthusiasm for brilliant plot twists.
Andrew is a book coach and World-Building Consultant. He loves reading, anime, Dungeons and Dragons, and nerding out with writers over their books. If you like piña coladas, getting caught in the rain, and developing complex fantasy worlds that transport readers to another dimension, you two will get along just fine.
